Lydia was most likely born in Nelson County, KY.
She appears on the 1850 census, age 10, a student,
along with her father and brother in Hendry County,
Iowa.
A Lydia Allison is listed for the Tennesee 1860 Federal
Census Index in Hamilton County, Page 110, District 14.
I have not yet verified if this is the correct Lydia.
An Ezra Allison appears on the California 1860 Federal
Census Index in Yuba County, Bear River Township, page
1007. It is entirely possible that Lydia was in TN
while Ezra was either prospecting or working to set
up a home for Lydia. It is known that their son, William
H. was born in California cira 1863.
According to the Federal Bureau of Land Management,
Accession Serial Nr. CACAAA 041215, an Ezra Allison
purchased a military script warrent patent on a parceL
in Sutter County, California, on 1-Nov-1861. If this
is the proper Ezra, then it may be possible that he
served in the 1848 Mexican War or for the Union during
the Civil War.
I next find Ezra and Lydia listed in the Idaho 1870
Federal Census Index in Silver Ciry, Owyhee County,
page 185.
Lydia remains in Silver City, Idaho, for the 1880
Federal census but without Ezra. The entry on page
348 lists the family members not including Ezra.
Lydia's occupation is given as washing/sewing. The
oldest child William H. whose middle name is presumed
to be "Henry" is age 17 and his stated occupation is
stock herder. The other children are Josephine age 14
[Lydia's brother also named a daughter Josephine],
and Bertha, age 11. William's birth place is listed as
CA and that of the other children as Idaho. Their
father's birthplace is given as Ohio and Lydia's as KY.
The birthplace of both of Lydia's parents is listed as
VA. The information all appear to verify that this is
the correct family.
An Ezra Allison is in Bonanza, Lemhi County, Idaho, page
201 in 1880. I have not yet verified that he is Lydia's Ezra.
He could have been prospecting or working in a mine to
support his family.
A Henry Allison married a Mrs. Henderson of Snake Creek at Reymolds
Creek in Owyhee County in Feb-1887. It is possible that this is our
William Henry Allison. A Henry William Allison was listed in Idaho
WWI draft registrations who was born in 1888. Could he be the son of
our William Henry?
A biographical sketch of Lydia's brother, C.P. "Calvin" Wineset published
in 1893 when he lived in Oregan City, Clackamas County, Oregon, states
that his sister, Lydia Ann Allison, lives in Silver City, Idaho.
Any information about Lydia, her husband and their descendants would
certainly be appreciated.
