Jotty was born in Sheeptown portion of Carroll County. He worked in the coal and lead mines and then he and Ethel moved to Washington D.C. where he was a policeman when World War II began. He joined the Army and became a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division and served in the Pacific. After the war, he went to first Lee College in Severville, TN, and then to the University of Tennessee on the G.I. Bill. After graduation, he worked at the nuclear facility at Oakridge as a chemical engineer for 30 years before retiring.
The family was living in Knoxcille, Knox County, TN at the time of Ethel's death. Both Jotty and Ethel are interred in the Burnett Family Cemetery in Carroll County, VA.
Jotty and Ethel's children are:
1. Joan (4-Nov-1935),
2. Loretta (7-Jan-1938),
3. Jotty C. Randolph (31-Jul-1942), and
4. Douglas (DOB & DOD unknown) who predeceased his mother.
Both daughters are married.
