Cleve at age 100

Cleve was a farmer. He served in Company B, 317th Infrantry Regiment, 80th Infantry Division (The Blue Ridge Division) A.E.F., in France during WWI, SN: US1817138. His ship sailed from Norfolk on 26-May-1918 and landed in Brest on 8-Jun-1918. He was involved in the campaigns at Somme and at Meuse-Argonne. Cleve's unit left France in May and landed at Newport News on 1-Jun-199.

Cleve was an active mason being a lodge member for more than 75 years. He was raised 2-Oct-1915 in Ceres Lodge No. 262, now combined with Bland Lodge. He was Worshipful Master of the Ceres Lodge in 1932. He was Worshipful Master of Bland Lodge No. 206 14-Dec-1988 at age 100. He was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Cleve never was treated at a hospital until ater an accident with his pick-up at age 89. At age 100, he still drove his pick-up and chopped wood.

Little is known about Maye at this time. She was born in Elk Creek and taught school for several months before marrying Cleve. They are buried in Red Oak Cemetery in Bland County.

Cleve and Maye's children are:
1. Ralph Edwin (6-Jul-1920),
2. Eva Lois (11-Dec-1925) and
3. Alta Maye (13-Jul-1930 to 7-Jul-1967).
Both Alta and Lois were nurses.
